Youth Council

Youth Council is a dynamic group of 12–14 passionate, dedicated high school students from the Chicago area who work together to strengthen the Museum’s partnership with teens.

Two rows of teens sit at a long, gray table in a room with three large windows against the back wall. Each teen is looking at their own laptop computer.

Each year, Youth Council members plan and run two teens-only curioCITY events, which invite career exploration by matching museum scientists with professionals from other non-scientific fields. These thought-provoking opportunities let teens have fun while thinking about career paths.

The council meets on select Saturdays from September through May. Participants interact with youth councils from other organizations, go behind the scenes at the Field Museum, and enjoy free admission to museums around town, including the Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium, and Art Institute of Chicago.

Youth Council participants also get credit toward their Chicago Public Schools service-learning requirement for all hours served.
