Native Truths: Our Voices, Our Stories features amazing work by Native artists from all over North America, including Missy Mahan (Tohono O’odham, Euchee (Yuchi), and Mvskoke). Learn how she highlighted her culture in Native Truths: Our Voices, Our Stories with her own artwork and regalia presented alongside pieces from the Field Museum’s anthropology collection. In collaboration with Field Museum collections, conservation, and mount shop staff, Missy’s presentation will discuss how cultural materials come out of storage in the Collections Resource Center and go on display for the world to see!

Monthly Member Lecture: From the Seashore to the Seafloor

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to sail oceanic waters and study under-explored areas and fascinating marine specimens? Help celebrate World Ocean Day and join us for a virtual journey to explore the biodiversity of Costa Rica&#39;s unprotected seamounts, alongside Janet Voight, Ph.D., of the Negaunee Integrative Research Center, Holly Lutz, Ph.D., Research Associate in Life Sciences, and the <a href="https://schmidtocean.org">Schmidt Ocean Institute</a> team onboard the R/V Falkor (too). Be part of our journey as we uncover the mysteries and importance of these seamount ecosystems!

Ship-to-Shore with Janet Voight and Holly Lutz

With its crocodile-like jaws set in a skull that is 20% longer than T. rex and its large dorsal sail, Spinosaurus aegyptiacus is one of the most iconic dinosaurs. However, this species was almost lost to science when the first specimen was destroyed in WW2. Through chance, hard work, and perseverance, a second skeleton was discovered. This specimen reveals that Spinosaurus had a paddle-like tail adapted for aquatic locomotion, a first among dinosaurs. This kicked off one of the greatest controversies in recent dinosaur paleobiology. Field Museum scientists weigh in, providing rigorous quantitative data to demonstrate that Spinosaurus was indeed a subaqueous foraging predator.
