<p>The Field Museum is the only place in the Western hemisphere to see the world&rsquo;s largest predatory dinosaur. A <em>Spinosaurus</em> cast, named Sobek the <em>Spinosaurus</em>, is displayed in the museum&rsquo;s main Stanley Field Hall! Suspended twelve feet above the ground in a swimming pose to evoke its reign as a prehistoric river monster.</p>

Dino Days of Summer

<p>Come join Dr. Stephen Mahony to learn more about new species of frogs that were recently discovered in the Field Museum's Herpetology collection. Visitors will learn more about the importance of museum collections regarding the discovery of new species, including how new species are discovered, the process of naming a new species, and why museum specimens are vital for our understanding of the world's biodiversity.</p>
<p>Scientists, researchers, and collections managers are behind the scenes every day, uncovering new information and taking care of our collection.</p>
<p>During Meet a Scientist, you can find them in the<span>&nbsp;</span><em><a href="https://www.fieldmuseum.org/exhibitions/grainger-science-hub">Grainger&nbsp;Science Hub</a></em>. They'll discuss their work and share real items from the museum&rsquo;s collection of nearly 40 million objects. <p>Grab your little lab coats and polish your mini magnifying glasses, the <em>Crown Family PlayLab</em> is hosting a new series of classes for 3-6 year olds&ndash;Itty Bitty Investigators.&nbsp;</p>
<p>These 60-minute sessions will spark your little scientist&rsquo;s curiosity as they dig into exciting topics, like fossils, dinosaur teeth and tails, fins, wings and more. In each session, your child and attending caregiver will investigate a scientific phenomenon with a Field Museum educator through storybooks, crafts, experiments and our favorite&hellip;play!</p>
<p>To attend, pre-register your 3-6 year old and ensure a caregiver who is at least 18-years-old joins your itty bitty investigator for class. Registration includes participation in this 60-minute class and full-day access to the museum for the registered child and their caregiver.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Through needle, thread and color, the art of Tatreez tells a story about the maker and history of their family. Tatreez, or embroidery, is a rich artistic tradition that has been passed down across generations in Arab culture. It is typically used on garments with patterns and colors varying between birds, trees, flowers and geometric symbols. Tatreez patterns can even be as specific to the village, city or country a family is from.&nbsp;</p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Join us for a demonstration on Palestinian style Tatreez in the </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Grainger Science Hub</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> and to learn about the importance of this art form. See Kaftans, Thobes and Abayas that </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">feature traditional patterns and embroidery brought out from our collection up-close during this event.</span></p>

<p>The Field Museum is excited to kick off its second year of After School Science Club programming influenced by scientists, research, and collections at the Field Museum. Students explore Zoology and conservation efforts by learning about how scientists at the Field Museum helped save the Peregrine Falcon from extinction.</p>
<p>This is a <b>FREE</b> 10+ hour hands on learning curriculum that includes materials and professional development for club leaders! We&rsquo;re looking for educators and instructors who are interested in learning more about implementing this program in the Summer 2024 and/or the 2024-2025 school year. Field Museum staff guide you from SUE&rsquo;s life in the Cretaceous to the latest scientific research. Using a 3D virtual model scanned straight from SUE&rsquo;s fossilized bones, they&rsquo;ll point out key features that give hints about SUE&rsquo;s past.</p>

<p>On May 14, 2024, the Women's Board of the Field Museum will welcome conservation photojournalist Ami Vitale as its annual Women in Science Luncheon speaker.</p>

<p>Ami Vitale is a Nikon Ambassador and National Geographic photographer, writer, speaker and documentary filmmaker, and she has been named one of the most influential photographers of her generation. She has traveled to more than 100 countries, documenting the heartbreaking realities of war and the inspiring power of individuals making a difference.</p>

<p>Throughout the years, Ami has lived in mud huts and war zones, contracted malaria, and donned a panda suit&mdash; keeping true to her belief in the importance of &ldquo;living the story.&rdquo; Her award-winning work illuminates the unsung heroes and communities working to protect wildlife and preserve harmony in our natural world.</p>

<p>The Parker/Gentry Award was established in 1996, named after late conservationists Theodore A. Parker III and Alwyn Gentry. The award recognizes individuals, teams, or organizations in conservation whose efforts have made a significant impact on preserving the world's natural heritage and whose approach can serve as a model to others. Each year, a committee of Field scientists reviews nominees and selects an awardee whose methods can inspire and guide others. This May, the Field Museum will give the Parker/Gentry Award to Chicago-based Urban Rivers.

Ylanda will be discussing how people of all ages can learn from, enjoy, and appreciate the natural spaces we find within city limits. <p>Trick-or-treat yourself to a night at the Field Museum! This not-so-scary after hours event will be a scream for Halloween enthusiasts of all ages. Ghosts, ghouls, and other guests will get up close and personal with creepy crawlers, conduct their own owl pellet dissection, explore fascinating exhibits, and learn about spooky specimens in our collection from our team of mad scientists.</p>

<p>Botany and the LGBTQ+ community overlap in many ways, like their shared use of terminology like "bisexual" as lilies, tulips, and roses being known as bisexual flowers, or their cultural significance dating back to 7th century BCE with papyrus fragments of poetry by Sappho referencing violets.</p>
<p><em>This event is presented as part of our <a href="https://www.fieldmuseum.org/activity/pride-month">Pride Month</a> celebration.</em></p>
<p>Scientists, researchers, and collections managers are behind the scenes every day, uncovering new information and taking care of our collection.</p>
<p>During Meet a Scientist, you can find them in the<span>&nbsp;</span><em><a href="https://www.fieldmuseum.org/exhibitions/grainger-science-hub">Grainger&nbsp;Science Hub</a></em>. They'll discuss their work and share real items from the museum&rsquo;s collection of nearly 40 million objects. From collections care to field work, and dinosaurs to ecology, there&rsquo;s a world of science to explore.</p>

<p>All exhibitions will be open. Space is limited; reservations are required. The Field Museum will close at 4pm (last entry at 3pm) and reopen for the event at 5pm.</p>

<p>During Meet a Scientist, you can find them in the<span>&nbsp;</span><em><a href="https://www.fieldmuseum.org/exhibitions/grainger-science-hub">Grainger&nbsp;Science Hub</a></em>. They'll discuss their work and share real items from the museum&rsquo;s collection of nearly 40 million objects. From collections care to field work, and dinosaurs to ecology, there&rsquo;s a world of science to explore.</p>

<p><span>Abbott Laboratories' Women in STEM scientists visit the <em>Grainger Science Hub</em> to discuss glucose levels in our food, and how we measure the blood glucose levels in our bodies. Abbott's Women in STEM scientists will also share their educational and career journeys with those aspiring to study or work in the sciences.</span></p>
