High School Science and Digital Learning Program

Work with scientists and other digital-savvy teens to develop an interactive project during this summer internship.

The Digital Learning Internship selects 15 high school students from Chicagoland to be scientists for the summer. We introduce them to researchers and museum experts from across the Field Museum and they choose one to work with on a 5-week research project.

Teen interns will learn a wide variety of technology and digital media skills throughout the summer to support their research project, and they will participate in professional development to ensure that they can capitalize on the skills that they develop across the summer.

This paid internship will begin in the middle of June and will conclude at the end of July. Teens who are selected as interns will be expected to work at the Field Museum on a regular schedule from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Thursday, and will be paid $16.50 per hour.

Applications

Applications for the 2026 Digital Learning Internship are open now! Applications will be accepted until February 28th. Teens who are selected to interview will be invited for small group interviews at the Field Museum between March 23rd and April 10th. Internship selections will be announced on April 25th.

To qualify for the 2026 internship teens must:

  • Be a high school student expected to graduate in 2026-2029
  • Live in the Chicagoland region

The Field Museum believes that science doesn't care what you look like, where you live, or what your grades are. Teens from underrepresented minorities and from historically marginalized communities are especially encouraged to apply.
