High School Science and Digital Learning Program

Work with scientists and other digital-savvy teens to develop an interactive project during this summer internship.

The Digital Learning Internship selects 15 high school students from Chicagoland to be scientists for the summer. We introduce them to researchers and museum experts from across the Field Museum and they choose one to work with on a 5-week research project.

Teen interns will learn a wide variety of technology and digital media skills to support their research and will participate in professional development and enrichment sessions that focus on a range of topics such as resume building, interview skills, and building portfolios of work to ensure that they can capitalize on the skills that they develop over the summer.

This paid internship usually runs for 6 weeks between June and August. Teens who are selected for the program must be available to work in-person at the Museum for 4 or 5 days a week.

Applications for the Digital Learning Internship are closed for 2024. Please check this page in February or March to apply for the 2025 internship.

To qualify for the 2025 internship teens must:

  • Be a high school student expected to graduate in 2025–2028
  • Live in the Chicagoland region

The Field Museum believes that science doesn't care what you look like, where you live, or what your grades are. Teens from underrepresented minorities and from historically marginalized communities are especially encouraged to apply.
