    About this event

Check out prehistoric reptile fossils recently excavated in the Caribbean and discover what they can tell us about life millions of years ago

Meet Lazaro W. Viñola-López and Alexandra Dube, the Field Museum, and Beatriz Dybas da Natividade, University of Illinois at Chicago, and learn about their fieldwork in the Caribbean as they showcase their most recent fossil discoveries.

Viñola-López’s research spans the last 70 million years of evolutionary history in the West Indies, from the first species that populated the Caribbean islands, to changes in diversity through the Cenozoic, to the species that inhabited the islands at the arrival of humans and their interactions.

Discover how life in the Caribbean changed over time and learn about the earliest animals, from sebecids to gharials and more, who roamed these lands.

Scientists, researchers, and collections managers are behind the scenes every day, uncovering new information and taking care of our collection.

During Meet a Scientist, you can find them in the Grainger Science Hub. They'll discuss their work and share real items from the museum’s collection of nearly 40 million objects. From collections care to field work, and dinosaurs to ecology, there’s a world of science to explore.

Visit the Science Hub on select weekdays for an up-close look at what our researchers do every day.
