This May and June, Illinois will experience a rare, double-emergence of cicada broods XIX and XIII - a phenomenon that occurs once every 221 years. In honor of these little critters, we are hosting a series of cicada-centric events to help people experience the season with curiosity and wonder.
Scientists, researchers, and collections managers are behind the scenes every day, uncovering new information and taking care of our collection.
During Meet a Scientist, you can find them in the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.fieldmuseum.org/exhibitions/grainger-science-hub">Grainger&nbsp;Science Hub</a>. They'll discuss their work and share real items from the museum&rsquo;s collection of nearly 40 million objects. In this virtual professional development workshop designed to help educators meet the new requirements of the TEAACH Act, attendees will explore salient points and places with which to begin teaching Asian American community history with a focus on the history of Chicago's Native Hawaiian community. Visitors will learn about the fascinating wildlife and global diversity of Guyana, and why it has come to be known as the "Land of the Giants". Alyssa will also speak about the SRCS biodiversity conservation and cultural preservation of the Rupununi, showcase local crafts, and discuss how the Field Museum's Keller Science Action Center is working to strengthen conservation capacities in Chicago and Guyana.

Students explore Zoology and conservation efforts by learning about how scientists at the Field Museum helped save the Peregrine Falcon from extinction.
This is a FREE 10+ hour hands on learning curriculum that includes materials and professional development for club leaders! We&rsquo;re looking for educators and instructors who are interested in learning more about implementing this program in the Summer 2024 and/or the 2024-2025 school year. This is where you come in!

<h2>About the Parker/Gentry Award</h2>

The Parker/Gentry Award was established in 1996, named after late conservationists Theodore A. Parker III and Alwyn Gentry. The award recognizes individuals, teams, or organizations in conservation whose efforts have made a significant impact on preserving the world's natural heritage and whose approach can serve as a model to others. Each year, a committee of Field scientists reviews nominees and selects an awardee whose methods can inspire and guide others. For this week's PlayLab PlayDate, families with 2-6-year-olds are invited to a free, drop-in gross motor activity. Hang out in the PlayLab and pretend to be frogs hopping through their habitats on a fun, Lily Pad Obstacle Course!
The&nbsp;Crown Family PlayLab&nbsp;offers families with 2-6 year olds a weekly PlayLab PlayDate on Wednesdays in 2024. PlayLab PlayDates are free, drop-in activities featuring storytime sessions, music and movement circles, science experiments and more.
PlayLab PlayDates are free to museum guests, don&rsquo;t require pre-registration, and take place on IL Resident Free Days!

Calling all caped crusaders! Assemble at the Field Museum for a heroic evening of saving the world. Put on your best superhero gear and work together to thwart a mysterious supervillain&rsquo;s nefarious plan before the end of the night. Learn about wildlife conservation and how you can become a friendly neighborhood hero. Plus, get to know the super animals that inspired some of your favorite superheroes. Finally, gather on the museum terrace for a spectacular view of the fireworks over Navy Pier (weather permitting)!

Trick-or-treat yourself to a night at the Field Museum! This not-so-scary after hours event will be a scream for Halloween enthusiasts of all ages. Ghosts, ghouls, and other guests will get up close and personal with creepy crawlers, conduct their own owl pellet dissection, explore fascinating exhibits, and learn about spooky specimens in our collection from our team of mad scientists.
