ECCo’s inventories highlight creative models that can be scaled up to engage residents in climate action. In Roseland, several community partners identified the arts as an effective way of addressing environmental education and engagement. “I Welcome Myself to a New Place” is one of Chicago’s largest community murals. Installed in 1988, it depicts the cultural heritage traditions of Roseland and Pullman. It also portrays the historical significance of the region first as a farming community and then as a center for labor activity.

ECCo’s third inventory was with the Polish community. Findings revealed that many Polish residents maintain the longstanding tradition of gardening, sometimes using pots and planters to keep small container gardens where green space is limited.
