Geology
The Geological Collections consist of four collections, each supervised by a collections manager and five curators of Earth Sciences at Field Museum.
The Geological Collections consist of four collections, each supervised by a collections manager:
- Physical Geology including the largest collection of non-governmental meteorites, managed by James Holstein
- Paleobotany Collection, managed by Dr. Michael Donovan
- Fossil Invertebrate Collection, managed by Paul Mayer
- Fossil Vertebrate Collection, managed by William Simpson
- Fossil Vertebrate Loans, administered by Adrienne Stroup
Earth Sciences at Field Museum consist of five curators:
- Dr. Philipp Heck, Meteroritics
- Dr. Fabiany Herrera, Paleobotany
- Dr. Arjan Mann, Fossil Fishes & Early Tetrapods
- Dr. Jingmai O’Connor, Fossil Reptiles
- Dr. Ken Angielczyk, Fossil Synapsids/Mammals
This research group is focused on paleontology, systematics, evolutionary theory and meteoritics. Most of our paleontologists take an interdisciplinary approach in their research programs, combining fossil and living organisms together to extract information of broad evolutionary significance. Current research within the Robert A. Pritzker Center for Meteoritics and Polar Studies is on presolar grains to afford insights into our parent stars and the history of our Galaxy.
Using the Collections
Some items in the Field Museum collections are available to loan for exhibition, research, or education in support of our mission: fighting climate change, preserving biodiversity, celebrating cultures, and championing science.
