I missed my group’s entry time. What should we do? 

In order to ensure that groups have a great visit, pre-K through 5th-grade students must be accompanied by a minimum of one adult for every five students and a maximum of one adult for every child. Students in 6th through 12th grade must be accompanied by a minimum of one adult for every ten students and a maximum of one adult for every child.

How many chaperones can my Illinois School Group bring?

After you submit your registration form, you will receive an email with an invoice PDF. You can submit that payment amount by mailing a check before the trip or calling our office at (312) 665-7500 with a credit card.

Payment must be received 2 weeks prior to your trip date. If payment is not received 2 weeks prior to the field trip date, tickets will be released to the general public.

How do I submit payment?

Illinois groups registered at least 2 weeks in advance are allotted a discounted price of $7 per person to enter the &nbsp;Pok&eacute;mon Fossil Museum exhibition. Every person entering the exhibit will need a ticket.

Starting March 3, Illinois field trip groups may register using our <a href="https://www.fieldmuseum.org/page/register-your-field-trip-group">field trip registration form</a>. &nbsp;All field trips should be booked at least 2 weeks in advance. Unfortunately, there are no scholarships available for this special exhibition. All Illinois students, chaperones, and teachers on the field trip who are visiting the exhibit must pay $7 to enter. You can still book your <a href="https://www.fieldmuseum.org/landing/field-trips">General Admission field trip</a> for free, and visit the Evolving Planet exhibition to learn about fossils.

On May 21, 2025, the Women's Board of the Field Museum will welcome Sera Young, PhD as its annual Women in Science Luncheon speaker.

Dr. Young is a Professor of Anthropology and Global Health at Northwestern University, and she has dedicated her career to understanding how women work to preserve their health and that of their families. Her research focuses on maternal and child undernutrition in the first 1,000 days of life, particularly in low-resource settings.

Notably, Dr. Young led a large team in the development of the first globally equivalent way of measuring water access &ndash; the WISE (Water InSecurity Experiences) Scales. These scales have been used by 100+ organizations in 50+ countries to tackle some of the world&rsquo;s most pressing health challenges.

She has authored more than 170 peer-reviewed publications, and her work has been featured in The New York Times, BBC, and National Geographic. Recent accolades include the Margaret Mead Award for her book Craving Earth, an Andrew Carnegie Fellowship, and the Norman Kretchmer Memorial Award in Nutrition and Development.

Join us for a professional development workshop inspired by the Restoring Earth in Abbott Hall. This session will explore how rainforest ecosystems can be used to support inquiry-based science learning in grades 3&ndash;5. The workshop will highlight classroom strategies that support Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), with a focus on ecosystem relationships, environmental change, and human impacts on Earth&rsquo;s systems. Educators will explore approaches for modeling food webs, facilitating evidence-based discussions, and helping students analyze real-world environmental challenges.

During Meet a Scientist, you can find them in the <a href="https://www.fieldmuseum.org/exhibition/halls-and-galleries/grainger-science-hub">Grainger&nbsp;Science Hub</a>. They'll discuss their work and share real items from the museum&rsquo;s collection of nearly 40 million objects. From collections care to field work, and dinosaurs to ecology, there&rsquo;s a world of science to explore.

Insects live in a world dominated by odors that are produced by food, potential mates, and would-be predators. An insect's antennae are key to making sense of this complexity, because they are sensitive to chemicals that distinguish friend from foe or food from toxin.
Meet Postdoctoral Researcher Rowan French and investigate the biology and importance of chemical communication in shaping the lives and diversity of insects. See plant-feeding beetle specimens up-close, learn about some of the compounds beetles use to find their food plants or mates at the &ldquo;smell station&rdquo;, and discover how scientists take advantage of beetles' chemical sensitivities when designing traps for management, conservation, and research.

Get up close to live reptiles and meet the experts who study them. Interact with Field scientists, sink your teeth into hands-on activities, and craft a take-home souvenir&mdash;your own reptile-themed wine glass charm. Come learn more about auto race track engineering as a career, the aerodynamics involved in a NASCAR street race, and how science, engineering, and data science is applied to the racing world of NASCAR.
Visitors can interact with real NASCAR auto parts, including a tire that was designed for the Chicago Street Race Course.

Come learn how NMNH uses historic museum specimens to study the genetic history of bison. The Field Museum welcomes <a href="https://www.adlerplanetarium.org/explore/about-us/who-we-are/">Elizabeth Babcock, PhD</a>, who joined Museum Campus neighbor Adler Planetarium as President and CEO in 2025. &nbsp;Before joining the Adler, she served as the Founding Director of the Smithsonian American Women&rsquo;s History Museum in Washington, D.C., where she laid the groundwork for a new national museum focused on women&rsquo;s history, advanced a multimillion-dollar campaign, and expanded national support for the museum.
This lecture will take place in the Founders' Room, and is part of our <a href="https://www.fieldmuseum.org/activity/womens-history-month">Women's History Month</a> programming&ndash; commemorating and encouraging the study, observance, and celebration of the vital role of women in history.&nbsp;
