<p><strong>Cordia Pugh</strong> is a Chicago-based community leader, nonprofit founder, and urban gardening advocate with more than 45 years of professional experience in philanthropy, community development, and executive leadership. She is the Founder and Director of Hermitage Community Gardens and the Englewood Veterans Garden, initiatives that promote environmental stewardship, community wellness, and neighborhood engagement through green space and education. Cordia currently serves as President of Community Service of Englewood and Veteran by Veteran Services, leading programs that support civic engagement and advocacy for underserved communities. Her work has earned multiple community and environmental awards, reflecting her passion for using collective action and community-driven solutions to create meaningful change.</p>

<p><strong>Brenda M. Palms</strong>, a passionate social entrepreneur, has served as President and CEO of the North Lawndale Employment Network (NLEN), an urban workforce development agency since its founding in 1999. &nbsp;In 2004, she launched NLEN&rsquo;s wholly owned subsidiary social enterprise Sweet Beginnings, LLC, a social enterprise that harnesses the power of honeybees to transform a community. &nbsp;Through Brenda Palms&rsquo; innovative approach, she advances equity for people of color, particularly those facing income constraints and returning from incarceration. Her mission at NLEN equips individuals with valuable skills, industry certifications, and restored self-worth, preparing them to successfully re-enter and thrive in today's competitive labor market. &nbsp;Brenda is a graduate of Harvard&rsquo;s Strategic Perspectives in Non-Profit Management program and the Chicago Urban League&rsquo;s Next One entrepreneurship program, which included classes at Northwestern University&rsquo;s Kellogg School of Management. She holds a Master of Science in Nonprofit Management from the Spertus Institute in Chicago.</p>

<p><strong>Roz Owens,</strong> The Bronzeville Neighborhood Farm began in 2017 to understand the need for healthy, whole foods in the Bronzeville Community.&nbsp; Many stores sold processed and unhealthy food, but no healthy, whole foods were available other than the one local supermarket. &nbsp;Johnnie Owens, the founder of the farm, campaigned to have the merchants, which were primarily liquor stores, provide healthy food choices at a minimum. &nbsp;From that, he was successful in starting the farm with the assistance of the Alderman, NeighborSpace, and his own tenacity to create a space that grows healthy organic vegetables, educates the residents on making healthy choices by demonstrating how to cook the vegetables to retain their nutrients, and hosts Spring, Summer, and Fall celebrations around food.</p>

<p><strong>Alaka Wali</strong> is curator emerita of North American Anthropology in the Negaunee Integrated Research Center at the Field Museum. Alaka was born in India and came to the United States as a child. She received a BA from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in Anthropology from Columbia University.</p>

<p>She was the founding director of the Center for Cultural Understanding and Change at The Field Museum from 1995 to 2010. During that time, she pioneered the development of participatory social science research and community engagement processes based in museum science. She curated the North American collection, one of the Museum's largest regional anthropology holdings. Since 2000, she has worked closely with ecologists and museum educators to develop innovative community engagement strategies for people living in and around biodiverse regions of the Western Amazon and urban Chicago. She participated in a University of Illinois at Chicago study of Chicago community gardens and ethno-pharmacies that focused on how people are using traditional knowledge to address nutritional and medicinal needs. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Her research focuses on the relationship between art and the capacity for social resilience. She has authored several books, published monographs, and over 50 articles. &nbsp;She has curated numerous exhibitions, pioneering co-curated exhibitions with Native American contemporary artists. She led the curation of the new exhibition&mdash;<em>Native Truths: Our Voices, Our Stories</em>, which opened in May 2022. A companion edited volume is available from BAR Publishing. &nbsp;</p>

<p>Bob Weis is a dreamer who believes that if you can imagine it, you can do it. He was an Imagineer over a forty-year span, from 1980 to 2023. In those years, Bob worked on every Disney park and resort around the world. He was president of Walt Disney Imagineering from 2016 to 2022, and a Disney Global Imagineering Ambassador after that.</p>
<p>His passion for storytelling and creative collaboration, new technologies, and for the vibrancy of the guest experience has driven him through projects from Tokyo Disneyland (and later its accompanying park, Tokyo DisneySea) and Disney Hollywood Studios to the reinvention of Disney California Adventure and on to Shanghai Disneyland.</p>
<p>Dream Chasing is his recounting of four decades of creating and seeing to completion challenging projects, leading teams from the top secret, high-tech corridors of Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) to the highest levels of The Walt Disney Company.</p>
<p>Hear as Weis shares how his passion for chasing big innovative dreams, grounded in design, technology, and politics, brought an array of Disney experiences to reality, and how dreams can lay the groundwork for museums hoping to create immersive experiences for their audiences while centering storytelling in their design.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>Keynote</h2>

<p>On May 21, 2025, the Women's Board of the Field Museum will welcome <span>Sera Young, PhD </span>as its annual Women in Science Luncheon speaker.</p>

<p>Dr. Young is a Professor of Anthropology and Global Health at Northwestern University, and she has dedicated her career to understanding how women work to preserve their health and that of their families. Her research focuses on maternal and child undernutrition in the first 1,000 days of life, particularly in low-resource settings.</p>

<p>Notably, Dr. Young led a large team in the development of the first globally equivalent way of measuring water access &ndash; the WISE (Water InSecurity Experiences) Scales. These scales have been used by 100+ organizations in 50+ countries to tackle some of the world&rsquo;s most pressing health challenges.</p>

<p>She has authored more than 170 peer-reviewed publications, and her work has been featured in The New York Times, BBC, and National Geographic. Recent accolades include the Margaret Mead Award for her book Craving Earth, an Andrew Carnegie Fellowship, and the Norman Kretchmer Memorial Award in Nutrition and Development.</p>

<p style="text-align: center;">Since the inception of the Women in Science initiative in 2000, the annual luncheon has supported more than 500 young women through internships, fellowships, post-doc positions, salary support for female scientific staff, and a robust series of lectures and networking events. In addition, the luncheon makes possible annual science outreach programming for young women from three Chicago Public Schools &ndash; Orr Academy, Solorio Academy, and ITW David Speer Academy &ndash; whom we welcome to the Field Museum to join the luncheon, meet the keynote speaker, and network with female STEM leaders.</p>


<p>Join the Field Museum Women&rsquo;s Board for our annual luncheon held in support of our Women in Science programs. Hear about the projects this year&rsquo;s cohort of dynamic Women in Science Postdoctoral Fellows and Interns have been working on.</p>

<h2>Keynote</h2>

<p>On May 12, 2026, the Women's Board of the Field Museum will welcome Adji Bousso Dieng as its annual Women in Science Luncheon speaker.</p>

<p>Adji Bousso Dieng is a Senegalese scientist and Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Princeton University, where she leads Vertaix, a research group at the intersection of AI and the natural sciences. She is affiliated with multiple institutes across engineering, materials, quantum science, energy, and the environment, and previously was a Research Scientist at Google DeepMind (2020&ndash;2025). She is also the founder of the nonprofit The Africa I Know, which promotes STEM education in Africa.</p>

<p>Dieng's transdisciplinary work has earned major international recognition. Most recently, she was nominated by the UN Secretary-General as one of 40 experts on the inaugural International Scientific Panel on AI. She was awarded the 2025 Prix Galien Africa Special Prize, a Schmidt Sciences AI2050 Early Career Fellowship, and honors from the American Statistical Association and Columbia University. Her work has been featured in outlets such as Nature, New Scientist, Le Monde, Forbes, and Business Insider. She holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University, where her thesis received both a Google Ph.D. Fellowship and the Leonard J. Savage Award.</p>

Learn about the materials and techniques involved in scientific illustration, how these skills are applied for research publications, and use what you&rsquo;ve learned in a hands-on illustration experience using stippling techniques.</p>

<p>Join us for a wild after-hours adventure at the Field Museum, where the scaly, surprising world of reptiles takes center stage. In this exclusive <em>21+ evening</em>, we&rsquo;ll shed light on the evolution, adaptations, and untold stories behind these ancient survivors.</p>

<p>Join the Field Museum, in collaboration with the Japanese American Service Committee, at Shared Stories, Shared Future: An Educator Symposium on AANHPI Histories and Belonging. This event celebrates the culmination of a three-year journey exploring Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) histories and stories through education, community partnerships, and museum learning. The event will feature a screening of <em>Making Waves: The Rise of Asian America</em>, a film by JJML Productions, followed by a panel discussion with educators and young advocates who helped champion the TEAACH Act in Illinois. Breakout sessions, cultural activation stations, and cultural performances to follow. Field Museum Connections: AANHPI stories and the TEAACH Act programming is made possible with the generous support of the Cyrus Tang Foundation.</p>

<p><em>Please note: This Reptiles workshop features the same content offered during our Winter 2025 sessions. To ensure a fresh experience, we recommend that families who have already attended explore one of our other upcoming programs.</em></p>

Meet real-life reptiles at our Itty Bitty Investigators: Reptiles Last Call event!

<p><em>Pre-Registered Illinois <a href="https://www.fieldmuseum.org/field-trips">field trips</a> are FREE everyday of the week!</em></p>
<p>Free Wednesdays are the perfect opportunity for you to explore our basic admission exhibitions with your family or a group of science-loving friends. Adventure through the wilderness on a desert safari, explore ancient civilizations, and come face-to-face with prehistoric creatures&mdash; all in one place. The Field Museum has so much to explore, you&rsquo;ll need more than just a day to see it all. <span>But don&rsquo;t worry&mdash;Wednesdays are free for Illinois Residents.</span></p>
<p>Tickets for Free Days are only available to Illinois residents. For your convenience, free day tickets are available for advanced reservation online. Please present your proof of Illinois residency alongside your mobile tickets for express admission into the Museum. Tickets will also be available onsite subject to availability. Reservations are strongly recommended.</p>
<h2>Free Day Admission Options</h2>
<p><em>Advanced reservations for IL Free Day tickets are at capacity for Wednesday, 3/26. A limited number of tickets may be available onsite day-of, but we suggest you plan to visit another time.</em></p>
<h2>Proof of Residency</h2>
<p><span style="background-color: transparent; font-family: inherit; font-size: inherit; font-style: inherit; font-variant-ligatures: inherit; font-variant-caps: inherit; letter-spacing: 0px;">Tickets for Free Wednesdays are only available to Illinois residents. </span>No special coupon, ticket, or pass is required to enter the Museum during Free Admission Days. Just present a current Illinois driver's license, state ID, or Chicago CityKey card at the ticket desk to establish proof of residency. If you do not have an Illinois identification card, you may establish residency by showing a valid photo ID along with one of the following:</p>

<li>Illinois lease</li>
<li>Illinois library card</li>
<li>Illinois student ID with photo</li>
<li>Illinois utility bill</li>
<li>Illinois work ID and check stub</li>
</ul>
<h2>Museums for All</h2>
<p>Can't make it on a free day? We offer <a href="https://www.fieldmuseum.org/visit#special-offers">Museums for All and other discounts</a> all year long.</p>
<p>Families who qualify for state food assistance can receive $3-per-person Basic admission for up to six people. Just show an EBT (Link) or WIC card when you purchase tickets at the museum. You cannot take advantage of this special offer when buying tickets online.</p>

<p>Designed especially for <strong>children ages 5-6 and their caregivers</strong>, this engaging program brings our special exhibit <em>Reptiles Alive!</em> to life through play-based scientific exploration and discovery.
