About this event

A First-of-Its-Kind Professional Development Experience

Join us in person at the Field Museum for a professional learning experience and workshop in partnership with the Newberry Library.

Take flight with a unique two-day journey blending science, art, and exploration, indoors and out. In an unprecedented partnership between the Field Museum and The Newberry Library, Winging It: The Art and Science of Birds offers educators and professionals an immersive experience that draws from two remarkable collections: the Field's world-renowned bird specimens and the Newberry's rare and historic ornithological texts. Discover how birds have inspired both scientific study and artistic expression through hands-on learning, guided exploration, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Whether in the galleries, the stacks, or under the open sky, you'll uncover new ways to bring the natural world to life.

Registration is open to formal and informal educators of all levels. Illinois Educators will earn 6 hours of Professional Development for attending this workshop.

Registration will remain open until Wednesday, July 9, 2025.
