Tickets for Free Wednesdays are only available to Illinois residents. No special coupon, ticket, or pass is required to enter the Museum during Free Admission Days. Just present a current Illinois driver's license, state ID, or Chicago CityKey card at the ticket desk to establish proof of residency. If you do not have an Illinois identification card, you may establish residency by showing a valid photo ID along with one of the following:

Families who qualify for state food assistance can receive $3-per-person Basic admission for up to six people. Just show an EBT (Link) or WIC card when you purchase tickets at the museum. You cannot take advantage of this special offer when buying tickets online.

To celebrate the Chicago Archaeopteryx and its new, permanent home in the Griffin Halls of Evolving Planet, the Field is hosting Free Friday! It&rsquo;s the perfect opportunity to explore our basic admission exhibitions with your family or a group of science-loving friends. Adventure through the wilderness on a desert safari, explore ancient civilizations, and come face-to-face with prehistoric creatures&mdash; all in one place. The Archaeopteryx party continues with Archaeopteryx-themed tours, a special <a href="https://www.fieldmuseum.org/our-events/playlab-playdates/playlab-playdate-chicago-archaeopteryx-storytime-craft">Craft and Story Time</a> in the Crown Family PlayLab,&nbsp;a scavenger hunt, and so much more.
Tickets for Free Friday are only available to Illinois residents. For your convenience, free day tickets are available for advanced reservation online. Tickets will also be available onsite subject to availability. Reservations are strongly recommended. <h3>Meet the panelists</h3>

The panel will feature Science Communicator Marylita Poma, Membership Operations Manager Stephanie Ticas, Public Programs Facilitator Navarro, and Curator of Pollinating Insects Bruno de Medeiros. The discussion will be moderated by Carmen Enriquez, Administrative Coordinator for Business Enterprise.

Marylita is a Peruvian professional specializing in environmental communications and conservation storytelling. She discovered her passion while working in the Peruvian rainforest, producing communication pieces that told the stories of local communities and their connection to nature. A year and a half ago, she moved to Chicago to join the Museum as the Science Communicator for the Keller Science Action Center.

Stephanie is a first-generation Salvadorean Latina, born and raised on the west side of Chicago. Her career began after she started an internship with Guest Relations, now called Visitor Services, at the Field Museum. As her college experience did not go as planned and she did not complete her degree, she moved back home and started working at the Museum full-time. After taking every opportunity and completing any task she possibly could, she managed to enter the development &amp; philanthropic field and started her journey in Membership. Never did she think that the museum world would offer her such a fulfilling career. &ldquo;It is truly one of the most rewarding roles I could have envisioned.&rdquo;

Navarro is a Mexican American from Los Angeles County, California. They received a BA in Environmental and Sustainability Studies from Columbia College Chicago. Currently, they work at the Field Museum and Lincoln Park Zoo. At the museum, they are the Public Programs Facilitator. At the zoo, they are a Guest Engagement Fellow. Being an environmental educator allows them to be a voice for the Earth while fulfilling one of their passions, reconnecting people with the land they inhabit and all organisms who share life with us now, in the past, and in the future.

Bruno grew up in S&atilde;o Paulo in Brazil, where he studied biology in college. He moved to the US in 2011 to get a PhD in Evolutionary Biology at Harvard University. Throughout the years, he has additionally lived in Argentina, Panam&aacute; and the Dominican Republic. Since 2022, he has been the curator of pollinating insects at the Field Museum.

Our moderator, Carmen Enriquez, is a proud Mexican-American who has grown up in the Southwest suburbs of Chicago. She has a BA in History and currently serves as the Administrative Coordinator for Business Enterprise at the Field Museum. Her passion for cultural heritage and community engagement drives her work, as she strives to support initiatives that promote diversity and inclusion for everyone.

When most people think of museum careers the first thing that always comes to mind is a Curator, but what if we told you there&rsquo;s so many other cool jobs in the museum world? This Latinx Heritage Month, join us for a bilingual (Spanish/English) career panel highlighting the professions and experiences of four Latinx-identifying Field Museum staff members from various different fields of work, including advice to young students that may be interested in working in a museum.&nbsp;

Polish American Heritage Month is celebrated in October! In this interactive storytime session, guest readers from CPL will read stories honoring Polish American history, culture and identities. Join us for a fun-filled PlayDate with stories, songs and more!

For this Pop-Up PlayDate session, families with 2-6 year olds are invited to a free, drop-in music and movement demonstration in honor of Indigenous Peoples' Day. To celebrate, Huehuecoyotl performers will visit the PlayLab before their museumwide presentation to meet with guests, discuss their regalia, chat about celebration days, and even teach a few dance steps. Afterwards, families are encouraged to head upstairs to Stanley Field Hall to enjoy the <a href="https://www.fieldmuseum.org/our-events/indigenous-peoples-day/indigenous-peoples-day">full performance</a>.&nbsp;

For this week's PlayLab PlayDate, families with 2-6 year olds are invited to a free, drop-in storytime session celebrating National Fossil Day! Alongside other events taking place at the museum, this storytime will feature the fascinating world of fossils--what they are, where they come from, and how they can be used to learn about life long ago.

This event is free and open to schools as well as the general public. Advance registration is required of schools, encouraged for general public.

Register your class for a field trip to see a special student performance of Giovanni Ortega&rsquo;s play about the solidarity between Filipino and Mexican American farm workers during the Delano Grape Strike. Classes will stay for a post-show Q&amp;A with the playwright/director. Space is limited, so secure your spot now! (Grades 6-12)
Registration is FREE for Illinois schools, and participating educators making Sama Sama: Solidarity in the Fields part of their school&rsquo;s field trip experience will receive pre- and post-lessons for the play. In addition, students will be able to submit their questions for the playwright/director ahead of time.

From a monster mash dance party and storytime in the Crown Family PlayLab to natural history bar trivia with a spooky twist in Stanley Field Hall, this after hours event will be a scream for Halloween enthusiasts of ALL ages.
Later in the evening, explore the zoology exhibits as you've never seen them before - in the dark! Your senses will be put to the test in a series of challenges and obstacles as you navigate past the darkened dioramas. Are you brave enough to enter the realm of nocturnal creatures?

Parking for a fee is available at Soldier Field North Garage. The East Lot features accessible parking, first come first serve. Rates vary at both lots.&nbsp;

Join us for a morning of discovery as you and your family explore the vast and mysterious depths of our planet&rsquo;s oceans in the Museum&rsquo;s breathtaking new 3D movie, Oceans: Our Blue Planet. You will also have a chance to delve deeper into ocean exploration with an interactive station featuring specimens from the Museum&rsquo;s collection and enjoy an engaging ocean-themed craft. Don&rsquo;t miss this unique opportunity to discover the wonders of the deep and connect with our Field Museum expert who brings the ocean to life!&nbsp;
Each of the two sessions will feature a museum scientist with real items from the museum&rsquo;s collection and an ocean-themed craft. Both sessions will attend the film at 11:00am.

Happy Hour will begin at 5:30pm, with complimentary drinks and light bites. Guests will have access to the Evolving Planet exhibition, where the Chicago Archaeopteryx can be seen in its new home. Grab a bite and a drink and mingle with our scientific staff before the main event.&nbsp;
At 7pm, hear from punk rock paleontologist, Jingmai O&rsquo;Connor. Learn about Archaeopteryx, the oldest known bird, from its initial discovery to its perch as the icon of evolution. Discover why, after 164 years of research on a dozen specimens, the Chicago Archaeopteryx (lucky #13) still has much to teach us about the biology of this iconic species and the transition from dinosaur to dinosaur-bird.&nbsp;
Each ticket includes Happy Hour food and beverages, entrance to the Evolving Planet exhibition, and admission to the Archeopteryx lecture.&nbsp;

Join us for the 8th Annual Indigenous Peoples&rsquo; Day Teach In presented in partnership with Smithsonian&rsquo;s National Museum of the American Indian and Teaching for Change. This event is an opportunity for educators to convene in person to strategize ways to uplift Native voices in the classroom.&nbsp;
The day will begin with collective participation in a virtual live-streamed keynote address delivered by Dr. Elizabeth Rule (enrolled citizen of the Chickasaw Nation). She will highlight the centrality of Native peoples to the history of the District of Columbia, showcase Indigenous contributions to the capital city, and discuss efforts under way to reaffirm DC as an Indigenous place.&nbsp;
She will also explore what teaching about Indigenous peoples looks like in a modern context and how teachers can become allies with the Native community by imparting lessons, inspiration, and empowerment.
After the keynote address, Chicagoland participants will follow Dr. Rule&rsquo;s lead and explore Chicago as an Indigenous place by looking at Native peoples&rsquo; impact on the history of this place, its presence, and the future.&nbsp;
We will spend targeted time in the Native Truths: Our Voices, Our Stories exhibition, collaborate with peers, and have a lunch that highlights Native food.&nbsp;
The cost of this event is $45 and includes lunch, parking, and additional curricular resources.

<h2>Virtual tours for classrooms</h2>

We offer special tours just for students on select Tuesdays during the school year. One tour hosts all classrooms and student groups who registered for that day, including homeschooled students.
